Strengthening the ID/A Community: October 2024 Newsletter

Our Intellectual Disability & Autism division is committed to enhancing the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities and strengthening the communities they are a part of. We truly believe that our communities are stronger when those we serve find true belonging and purpose. Through our services, we’re able to equip individuals with essential life skills that aim to foster greater independence and self-confidence. This in turn helps them find greater belonging in the broader community.

How does this play out?

Collaborative efforts with local businesses and organizations opening employment and social integration for individuals, further enhancing community cohesion and building an inclusive, supportive, and vibrant community for everyone.

Recreational and vocational activities bringing together people of all abilities, promoting understanding and acceptance.

Family support through services like respite and Lifesharing fosters both individuals’ independence and supports families as they maintain balance and well-being.

Fierce advocacy for the rights of individuals with intellectual disabilities ensures we have a strong voice towards a more inclusive society through policy change and awareness campaigns as well as opportunities to learn self-advocacy skills.

These are just a few of the ways we are strengthening communities, but there are countless more. Don’t take for granted that even the simplest actions of saying hello and greeting each individual and caregiver with a smile can show that they are seen, cared about, and are truly part of the communities in which we live.

Celebrating DSP Appreciation Week

In the second week of September every year, we take time to recognize and celebrate the efforts of our incredible Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). Our DSPs provide essential care and assistance to each person they work with. We could not support those we serve without them! People took time to share their appreciation on our DSP Appreciation page. You can read all the amazing things they shared below.
