Red Ribbon Week is a special time in October when people come together to talk about being drug-free and making healthy choices. The theme this year is, “Life is a Movie, Film Drug-Free,” connecting to the challenges and triumphs of writing and living your own story. It’s a reminder that we are in charge of our own choices, that we are allowed to make mistakes and do a “second take.” We can choose the supportive cast we surround ourselves with.

We encourage you to share the Red Ribbon messages at home. Start by engaging in open conversations. Ask questions like, “What helps you feel better when you get stressed?” and “What is important to you about making healthy choices?” Take this time to also discuss your family values and the expectations you have around substance use. For tips about how to start these conversations and resources for actions you can take to prevent substance misuse download the Talk. They Hear You. app or go to
